Getting Started in Airport Tycoon 2

Scan, collect, Snack Tax, second lane, then a destination — in that order.

Getting Started

Airport Tycoon 2 drops you into a bright terminal, not an empty ocean plot. Your job in the first twenty minutes is to turn a trickle of passengers into a loop that prints cash while you read the rest of this wiki. This page is that loop.

Before you buy anything

Like the experience and join the Airport Tycoon! group. The listing still advertises +1,000 money for those two actions. If a friend is already in the six-player server, you also get +10% money per friend. Premium/Plus is optional at +15% money / +15% luck.

Open Store on the left. Confirm the Enter Code field. As of September 2026 it has no confirmed live strings — do not paste Fat Whale codes. Close Store and look at the floor: scanners, an ATM / collector, and amenity buttons.

The opening loop

  1. Scan. Walk to security. Approve clean passengers. This is how people enter the money machine. The first-flight badge Takeoff! fires after you complete a flight, not after the first scan.
  2. Collect. Ticket and amenity cash often sits until you hit the collector. Get used to pocketing it every lap.
  3. Snack Tax. Buy your first amenity. The badge is literally named Snack Tax. A vending machine or snack kiosk is the usual first purchase in playthroughs.
  4. Upgrade a category. Upgrades, People! unlocks the first time you buy any category upgrade. Do it on something that speeds the queue, not a cosmetic tree.
  5. Second lane. Line Buster is “build a second security lane.” One scanner is a joke the moment two families arrive together. Read security if the line stalls.
  6. Destination. Where To Next? is your first destination unlock. Ticket value and pick chance start to matter here — see the destination list.

If you only do those six steps, you already outpace players who bought a jet with seven seats and no second lane.

What the first plane is for

Early aircraft are small. A common opener boards about seven people. That is fine. Destinations and passenger rarity pay more than fuselage flex. Save the plane tier list for after you have seating, a fountain or restaurant, and a luck story.

HUD pieces you will actually use

  • Store — codes, bundles, passes.
  • Rebirth — ignore until you understand 150k and luck. You will see the button early; it is bait.
  • Index — passenger rarities. Legendary guests have their own page.
  • Leaderboards — total departures, rebirths, and the Update 6 co-op board.
  • ATM / collector — your real wallet.

Controls differ by device; the controls page lists scan, collect, and camera notes for phone and PC.

First-session mistakes

Spending the +1,000 on a vanity fountain before Snack Tax. Amenities need a pipeline of people. Snacks first, sculpture later.

Rebirthing at 150k on a naked terminal. The reset is real. Tokens and luck help only if you can rebuild lanes quickly. Use the planner.

Ignoring expansions. Room for More is the first expansion badge. Update 5 removed the Star Token requirement for expansions, so space is a cash problem, not a token puzzle.

Playing the wrong game. If you are flying between Pirate Island and Tokyo, you are in Fat Whale’s title. Leave. This wiki’s screenshots show Gate C1, a globe fountain, and a giant sundae.

After the first hour

Push toward Frequent Flyer (25 flights) only if the queue is healthy. Unlock more amenities that raise dwell time — restaurants, seating, the fountain that “makes you not want to leave.” Stack luck so VIP Passenger (first Legendary) happens during a normal session, not as a rare accident.

If a friend can join, start a new co-op save rather than dragging them onto a messy solo file. Update 6 is built for that. Offline earnings will keep the shared airport warm until you both return.
